About Natalie
Introduction: Hello! I am Dr. Natalie Noel. I look forward to our time together. Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. I tend to think of it similar to finding a comfortable pair of shoes. You need to find the right fit. So a little bit about me to see if we will work well together. I am a Counseling Psychologist with a commitment to empowerment, intersectional multiculturalism, and positive transformation. I’ve dedicated myself to guiding individuals on their paths toward greater well-being and self-discovery.
Education and Specialties: My academic journey led me to earn my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Utah. Through my pre-doctoral internship at the Counseling and Student Development Center at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, I gained invaluable experience in the field. My areas of expertise include positive psychology, trauma, intersectional feminism and multicultural considerations, faith concerns/transitions, academic success, career development, and anxiety/depression.
Philosophy and Approach: Embracing a strengths-based multicultural approach, I firmly believe in the inherent capacity within each person to transcend challenges and achieve personal empowerment and life satisfaction. I’ve observed a pivotal shift in clients’ lives when we shift our focus from symptoms to envisioning a desired future. This approach empowers clients to create meaningful change and growth. Collaboratively, we dismantle disempowering societal messages, uncovering the client’s innate power and potential. I see the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for change, enabling clients to explore and heal within the safe space of the therapeutic connection.
I’ve come to understand the impact of a person’s past, culture, biology, and environment on their mental health. While we can’t control external circumstances, we possess the power to shape our responses. This realization has led me to embrace a theoretical orientation that emphasizes healing, growth, and resilience-building.
The short version: As I embark on this journey alongside my clients, my ultimate goal is to foster empowerment, guide transformative change, and instill resilience. Utilizing an intersectional multicultural feminism orientation (all genders are welcome), I aspire to uplift individuals, enabling them to embark on their unique journeys of self-discovery and growth.
Beyond the Therapy Room: In addition to my work as a therapist, I am an Assistant Professor (Clinical) at the University of Utah. When I’m not working, I enjoy conversations with interesting people, learning Krav Maga, reading, cross-stitching, powerlifting, and pop-culture references.
