Corinne Hannan, PhD

About Corinne

Hello, and welcome.  I have a very active therapy style and a warm, open, and vibrant personality.  I validate my clients and explore emotion; I also strongly encourage my clients to face discomfort and feedback so they can move toward desired behavioral change.  I am fun and funny, empathic, experienced and well trained as a therapist.  I am passionate about decreasing suffering and empowering people to live their lives full of color and joy.  I have a physical office in South Jordan, UT, and I am also equipped for teletherapy as I’m licensed in most US States via PsyPact.

My specialties

I have passion and ample experience working with

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Faith Transitions
    • I have talent for helping people navigate the often bewildering and painful disorientation that can accompany a change in faith, and in supporting people with the existential and relationship strains that can accompany this change.  I am also skilled with being faith affirming and being with people exactly where they are.  I have significant experience in both individual and group therapy with navigating and exploring matters of faith and spirituality.
  • Eating Disorders and Body Image Concerns
    • I am passionate and well trained in prevention and treatment of eating and body image concerns.  If you work with me, I also often require that you also work with an anti-diet, intuitive eating and HAES (Health at Every Size) based registered dietitian and get regular physical assessments from a medical doctor.  I can give you recommendations for these.
  • LGBTQ+ folks
    • I have a passion for working with queer folks in individual and group therapy addressing a wide variety of concerns.

I am also well trained as a generalist and can often work well with a variety of presenting concerns and relationship dynamics.

Working with Me

I work with ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) as a framework, and also draw heavily from feminist theory, and interpersonal, compassion focused, and mindfulness based therapies.

I do not take insurance.  I provide a superbill. This often makes it fairly straightforward to be reimbursed by insurance for out of network services should you choose to do so (often a signficant percentage of out of network services can be covered by your insurance company).

A Little About Me

I enjoy nature and animals immensely.  I love laughing and connecting socially, and I enjoy exploring this beautiful world through travel and recreation.  Reading is a passion and I’m trying out oil painting as a new hobby for fun!

My Qualifications

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and I have two decades of experience as a therapist.  I have a PhD from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, UT, an accredited internship from the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, WA.  I also have been an Associate (tenured) Professor for Brigham Young University where, in addition to clinical work, I focused on teaching and supervision of both undergraduate and graduate students as well as training other licensed therapists.  I left BYU in 2022 to focus solely on private practice.

I am a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Supervisor (CEDS-S) through IAEDP, the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals.  This is a prestigious credential only given to professionals with extensive training and experience in the field of eating disorders, helping protect clients from those who are not well-versed in the specialty.  I also am on the board of the Utah Chapter of IAEDP and am passionate about working with other eating disorders professionals in Utah, and I am committed to deepen intersectional access to education and prevention of eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image issues.  While at BYU I created an ongoing successful course titled “Intuitive Eating, Culture, and Body Image” dedicated to using empirically-based research and experiential learning to help increase essential education and improve students’ relationship with food in a sustainable way, increase media literacy, and improve body image.  My teaching reviews, both for myself as a teacher, and for the course materials, were highly positive.  I also implemented the empirically based program “The Body Project” from NEDA (National Eating Disorder Alliance) on BYU campus as a prevention program.

I am also a certified group psychotherapist (CGP) through AGPA, the American Group Psychotherapy Association, which is another prestigious credential based on extensive training and ability to provide evidence-informed group based treatment and supervision.

I look forward to meeting you and seeing if we are a good fit!
